The Fine Print

First of all, I want to acknowledge and thank all of you for the comments here on the blog and on Facebook about the theft we suffered. The support is welcome and very much appreciated. Yesterday was a low-key day. We remembered a few more items that were in the trailer. The lossĀ  really started to sink in.

I spoke with a claims adjuster at Progressive Insurance. She will call me this afternoon for additional details. I don’t have a warm and fuzzy feeling about it. We have the trailer insured as part of our full-timer’s RV policy. However, the fine print says that the policy covers loss of unscheduled personal effects when:

1) they are in the covered vehicle; or
2) on the parcel of real property that is :
a) owned by you or reserved for your exclusive use; and
b) occupied by the covered vehicle.

I guess I’ll find out how that’s interpreted this afternoon. The trailer and motorhome were not on the same site. However, both were on the park property. If they claim the trailer was in storage, that is clearly not covered.

This episode is a bit of a downer. However, it doesn’t reduce my enthusiasm for the lifestyle we’re living. We’ve had a great ride across this country and stayed in amazing places. We’ve met many good people along the way and enjoyed new friendships. And we love being right where we are. I may not be able to replace all of the stuff that was in our trailer, but whatever happens, we’ll get along fine.

Today the weather is looking better, blue skies at sunrise. The five-day forecast is more of the same – abundant sunshine. Donna is heading out to her exercise class on the scooter. Later this morning I’ll head out for a bike ride. Life is good.

We are about 1 1/2 to 2 years away from retiring and we are starting our information search and research on motor homes ect. What year, size and brand is yours? We are enjoying the blog and keeping notes.
    Sorry for your loss.

Hi Laney. We have a Gulfstream Sun Voyager. It’s 37′ long, built on a Workhorse chassis with an 8.1 liter GM Vortec engine. We are researching diesel pushers and will probably upgrade by spring.

Thanks so much for the response. We were also thinking a diesel pusher (used) might be the way to go. Trying to gather lots of information.
Can we ask what was your deciding factor was to going full time RVing? We are not committed to it yet but love to travel and are thinking about months at a time. We have 2 small dogs and 3 grown children spread out in the US so thinking it would still be nice to have a permanent place.
Thanks again for sharing you experiences and knowledge with us.

Hi, Laney. We decided to go full-timing because like you, we have children and family spread out across the country – and no family where we were (in Michigan). We were in Michigan for Mike’s job, but there was really no reason for us to stay there. We met in Phoenix and both love Arizona. Mike grew up in San Diego. One daughter lives here as does my sister. And we both prefer summer to winter weather. Our first thought was to keep our home in Michigan and get out of there in the winter, but it was much simpler to just go full-timing. It was definitely the right decision for us. We love our new lifestyle!
        Happy day,
        Donna

was so sorry to hear of your trailer loss and hope all turns out for the best and it can be replaced.
enjoy hearing about yours and your wife travels . feel like i get to go along. I have three grandkids to raise and so traveling probably won’t be in my life time. but treasure my grandchildren.
Don’t forget to set the clock back this week end and have a great and better week end.
